Post tensioning, box culverts, weir structures, compressive strength vs. tensile strength, rebar, rebar, and more rebar ~ this summer, we have had the opportunity to watch a fascinating transformation occur at Elizabethtown College. Unfortunately most people will never see any of it because the bulk of the transformation is happening underground.
The primary goal of this project is to provide a new concrete dam outlet weir, larger and with more capacity than the original, that will convey flood flows without overtopping the dam or roadway below. This will also allow the lake to provide storm water control for a large portion of the campus.
All this work will be topped off by a new timber and stone pedestrian bridge which will lead to a pedestrian trail that will now wind around the entire lake, providing recreational opportunities to many who will never know what lies beneath their feet.
