Legacy Project
Plain and Fancy Farm and Restaurant
Client: Thomas E. Straus Inc.
With an ownership change in 1993, a new vision was developed for Plain and Fancy. Using the farm concept, parking was pulled away from the building, a pond was developed for stormwater management, a white post and rail fence was designed to surround the property, and an open pasture with grazing horses was developed in the foreground. The coordination of building colors, signage, lighting, fencing, “brown” walks, and landscaping have all been used to create a cohesive farm setting. The attraction includes a family-style restaurant, authentic Amish farmhouse tours, a retail shop, and a state-of-the-art surround sound theatre depicting the lifestyle and heritage of the Amish.
