St. Bonaventure University Grotto
The Grotto at St. Bonaventure was originally constructed in 1925. The site has been used for ceremonies, masses, and other activities.
Renovating this treasured space is a desire of the University, keeping three goals in mind:
- improve aesthetics with a view toward making the Grotto more inviting;
- improve drainage to reduce mosquitos and bring about a firmer surface for activities – one that is less susceptible to wet conditions; and,
- make the Grotto more usable for functions and activities with seating and improved accessibility.
Lighting, flowering perennial plantings, and hillside seating are additional elements under consideration.
This project has attracted the attention of many alumni and is under consideration for several class gifts.
