Our Lady Of The Lake University, Metz Hall
Creating a home for new science labs was a key inititaive set forth in the master plan developed by Derck & Edson for Our Lady of the Lake University.
The existing Metz Hall needs to be renovated to meet current and future program needs. Deferred maintenance is also an issue, specificaly related to the roof, electrical systems, HVAC, restrooms, and interior finishes.
One of greatest needs by space type – both current and projected – is for science labs. The University desires expanded and renovated facilities to be more competitive with their peer institutions. Building expansion requires working with adjacent existing buildings, vehicular circulations, site utilities, and other campus infrastructure.
The conceptual design calls for construction of a new (4) story building addition on the west side of Metz Hall, overlooking the campus lake and resulting in twelve (12) new modern laboratories as well as renovation of the entire existing building to improve the condition of classrooms, offices, meeting rooms, and other support spaces for chemistry, physics, biology, mathematics, and kinesiology programs.
