Philadelphia University Landscape Master Plan
The landscape is the fabric that holds a university campus together and often defines the character of the institution. Philadelphia University recognized an opportunity to capitalize on some very unique existing campus features: location, history and mature vegetation.
The focus of the planning effort was the campus landscape, defined as exterior spaces throughout the campus. The overarching goal of the landscape master plan was to enhance spaces that can positively affect existing students and staff as well as areas that influence a visitor’s first impression. Special consideration was placed on areas of the landscape that were not already developed or enhanced to the greatest extent possible.
The design team worked hand in hand with university staff, administration, and students to assess the current strengths of the campus which were used as a framework to enhance the experience on campus.
This landscape master plan was established based upon a list of guiding principles that serve to strategically ensure consistency between new projects and create a long term vision for the campus landscape.
