West End Theatre District

The West End Theatre District is a unique collection of traditional urban planning elements, all contained within one sub-region of the City of Allentown outside its core business district. Elements of the Master Plan include: concepts for infill development (pictured here); streetscape improvement plans; gateway enhancements; corridor improvements; and Fairgrounds perimeter enhancements.

Landmarks like the Great Allentown Fairgrounds, the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Muhlenberg College, and the 19th Street Civic Theatre make this urban area diverse and distinct among the other areas of Allentown. A new entry for the Great Allentown Fairgrounds is illustrated in this sketch of proposed enhancements.
A plan view of proposed streetscape enhancements includes: new crosswalks, specialty paving at the 19th Street Civic Theatre; and enhanced urban landscape. One element of the landscape plan is the inclusion of moveable planters on all four corners of the intersection, which provide an opportunity to add seasonal color and interest along the corridor.
