Gwynedd Mercy University Stadium

The first project of the athletics master plan created by Derck & Edson has been completed at Gwynedd Mercy University. The new stadium includes: an eight-lane polyurethane track; a multi-purpose, lit, synthetic turf field (225′ x 360′); and a practice field with all of the necessary supporting facilities. Also included is a 900-seat grandstand, press box, concession stand, and rest rooms. At the terminus of the field is a new team building with rest rooms, locker rooms, training room, and changing areas for teams and officials.

The university challenged the design team to create a sustainable facility. As a result, the following features were integrated into the final project:

• recharging of the storm water back into the ground water
• bleachers made of 95% recycled materials
• stadium lights created with highly efficient lamps and reflector technology that require fewer lamps to light the field and limit light pollution

The resulting project has created a sports facility and a welcome addition to the Gwynedd Mercy University campus.
