Minersville Legion Memorial Park
Derck & Edson is working with the community in Minersville on designs and construction documents for Legion Memorial Park on the former site of their American Legion building in downtown Minersville. The park houses an interpretative plaque that tells the history of the site from its beginnings as the Kear family home and includes an historical sketch of the original structure that had been razed.
Five schematic design options were presented to the community. Of these, the final design features a public gathering space that meets the specific needs of an annual Memorial Day event, and includes two distinct areas of focus.
A covered stage, reflecting the regional industrial influences, frames the main plaza which celebrates the armed services with a five-pointed US star highlight in the paving punctuated with bronze medallions from each of the five branches of the armed forces.
A separate flag plaza will feature the United States flag surrounded with banners from each branch of the armed forces, along with tributes to four Medal of Honor recipients from the community.
