Penn State University Deike Building
At University Park, an existing concrete entry was scheduled to be renovated, creating a more open air entry for two key campus buildings. Derck & Edson was contracted to work through the design process with key stakeholders to develop a design for the new entry. Goals for the new space included:
- new, more inviting entry way to the building
- ADA accessibility
- coordination with a new doorway/wall system
- opportunity for donor involvement and the related, high-level of finish
- responsiveness to the short time line for project completion
- incorporation of bike racks, new lighting, and utility upgrades/site furnishings
- solving drainage issues
Derck & Edson addressed all these issues through our project process. Final deliverables included:
- design development
- construction documents (including an existing conditions plan, layout plan, grading and utility plan/profiles, site construction details, landscape plan, and technical specifications)
- design meetings
- construction observation
The resulting space is a comfortable, accessible niche with unique characteristics that create an inviting space and memorable addition to the campus.
