Tanger Arboretum Master Plan
The Tanger Arboretum is a key component of the Campus of History in Lancaster, PA. The overall campus encompasses Wheatland, former home of President James Buchanan, and LancasterHistory.org.
Derck & Edson was hired to take a fresh look at the arboretum, celebrate the Tanger family, evaluate current conditions, and suggest changes to the site, plant and tree health, and programming of the arboretum.
The completed master plan is an all-encompassing document that suggests various improvement projects including:
- the removal and the addition of plant materials and trees
- restoration of select historic site elements
- new signage throughout the campus
New programming elements to enhance the offerings of the arboretum are also planned such as:
- formal event lawn
- grape arbor
- secret garden
- beech grove
- a children’s garden and programming
We are excited to see the changes at the Tanger Arboretum as it continues to draw visitors and educate future generations.
