Penn State University Abington
At the Penn State campus in Abington, Pennsylvania, we designed a new campus gathering space at the entry to historic Sutherland Hall. Derck & Edson explored several concepts for the plaza space with input from campus stakeholders and the Office of Physical Plant.
Derck & Edson provided four sets of concept sketches, each with a plan view and a perspective rendering. These visuals were key components of our design development process as they helped stakeholders to truly visualize the effect of planned changes on their campus.
Once all the options were explored, we worked through a period of refinement, drawing on features from two of the four concepts initially presented.
A 3D digital model was created to further refine the design details which led to the creation of final construction documents for this new campus gathering space and building entry.
The completed project is an appropriate, welcoming, and multi-faceted entry to this historic and much-used campus space.
