Saint Joseph’s College of Maine Campus Enhancement Plan ®
Saint Joseph’s College of Maine is located on the scenic shore of Sebago Lake. The College engaged Derck & Edson for a Campus Enhancement Plan (CEP), focused both on smaller scale improvements to the core campus, as well as broader land use strategies.
Our first objective was to locate a site and develop concepts for an athletics complex with new fields and venues. To support strategic initiatives for increasing enrollment and resident population, sites for new residence halls and village-style upperclassmen housing were also explored to accommodate this future growth and provide the flexibility needed to address renovation and maintenance needs in existing residence halls.
Other key enhancement concepts included a relocated campus entrance, renovated main quad and new amphitheater, and improvements within and around the main administration building, Xavier Hall, with plans to relocate Admissions there, as well as transform the surrounding exterior into a formal garden space and events terrace with views overlooking Sebago Lake. All of these enhancements combined will help to create a dynamic new arrival experience for prospective students and visitors to campus.
With several project ideas already being considered and under development before our arrival on campus, an important task for Derck & Edson’s engagement was to help Saint Joseph’s College prioritize existing projects and plans along with other new project ideas conceived throughout the process. All future plans were consolidated into a cohesive overall plan to improve their campus in a way that reflects the quality of the institution.
